BIRDS

In form 6, we read a poem "WHO KILLED COCK ROBIN?" and talked about birds who live all over Europe and in Estonia. Some birds migrate, some birds stay in Estonia for all winter.

Märt and Silver wrote about two bird species.
Here they come!

Eagle
Eagles are big birds of prey. There are 6 species of eagles in Estonia. And there are more than 60 species in Eurasia and Africa. Compared to other birds of prey eagles are bigger and with stronger body-type. Also, they have a bigger peak. Eagles have large hooked peaks like all birds of prey. They also have an extremely keen eyesight. Eagles have strong muscular legs and powerful talons. Eagles build their nests in tall trees or on high cliffs. Larger chick often kills its younger sibling once it has hatched.
Crow
Crows live on all continents except Antarctic and South-America. There are more than 60 species of Crows. It is known that more than 10 species are extinct, and most of them have become extinct because of human activity. In Estonia there are about 5 species of crows. Crows aren’t very demanding for food and place to live. Many crow species have adapted to human activity. Crows are clever birds. Crows drop bread crusts to water, using them as fish bait. Since antiquity Crows are thought to be smart birds. The same goes to the creation of Estonian people.

Owls are very beautiful birds. Owls are very big and they live in forests. They sleep in a daytime and hunt at night. They eat mice, rabbits, rats, and other little mammals. The smallest owl is an Elf owl. Largest owl is an Eagle owl. Owls can rotate their heads and necks 270 degrees. They have very big eyes and their heads are usually round. They can see very far. Owl`s eggs are usually white.
Ravens are usually town birds but some ravens live in forests, too. Ravens live in North-America, England, Europe and Russia. Ravens are usually black. They eat trash and other stuff what they find in a city. Ravens have black and little bit golden beak. Ravens fight over food, I have seen ravens fighting. In Estonia there lives a common raven also named a northen raven. Common raven lives up to 15 years. Ravens are highly intelligent. In England there are the Tower of London ravens.

GUESTS FROM SWEDEN

On Thursday, 20 January Konguta School hosted our good friends from Sweden – Hans and Göran.
They have done a lot to support our school and students. We greatly thank them for that!
As Great Britan, so Sweden is also a kingdom. It is already a kingdom since more than 1000 years.
The Kingdom of Sweden is ruled by the King Carl XVI Gustaf.

This photo shows the Swedish royal family.

Our students sang a Swedish folk song „Uti Vår Hage“ („Blueberry Land“ in English) which is one of the best-loved folk songs among the Swedes. Hans and Göran said, that they used to sing this song in their childhood and they still like it very much.
Now you can listen to different versions of this song.
